History and Fate of the Universe:

Student Activities

CPEP activity for the hubble redshift

CPEP members have developed a hands-on, inexpensive classroom activity for demonstrating the expansion of the universe. For many scientists and teachers, the famous Hubble graph makes it obvious that the universe is expanding, but for many students this is not the case. This activity helps students see why the 1929 graph implies an expanding universe using elastic and a ruler.

CPEP card sort on the evolution of the universe

CPEP members have developed an activity through which students can learn about the evolution of the universe, by putting cosmological events in order. The card-sort can be used to accompany the CPEP cosmology poster, or as a stand-alone activity.
